FKF President Nick Mwendwa has on Saturday, December 7, 2019, stated his stance on the recent Sports Dispute Tribunal ruling which nullified the November 23, 2019 FKF County elections.
The ruling, delivered by SDT Chairman John Ohaga on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, also canceled the FKF National Elections that were to be held on December 7, 2019.
In a press briefing held on Saturday, president Nick Mwendwa expressed his disappointment in the court’s decision, but promised to abide by it, nonetheless.
"We as the National Executive Committee and football stakeholders at large met and though we respect the SDT and its decisions, we do not agree with the ruling," said FKF President, Nick Mwendwa
“Nonetheless, we will abide by the ruling, and have set in place a roadmap for repeat elections,” he said.
The sports dispute resolution body expressed concerns with the sufficiency of member participation in the enactment of the Electoral Code. It also ruled that the electoral board, mandated to independently conduct the elections, was improperly set up.
“We don’t think these decisions by the SDT were right. Over 6000 members who took part in the process were happy with it, save for a few who took us to court,” said the FKF boss.
He continued, “Starting today, however, we shall release the amended Electoral Code to all our 20 branches for Member participation. The code will come back to us on January 8, 2020. We shall then hold a Special General Meeting to pass the code as well as the electoral board which will henceforth be mandated with calling for and independently conducting fresh elections,"
“There are some old men who keep meeting in hotels to discuss on how they will drag us back. They did nothing for over 30 years, and they now want to take us back there. Ignore them,” he said, in a confident but nonchalant tone.
“We have football activities running even as they keep dragging us to courts,” said Mwendwa.
The Harambee Stars will kick off their CECAFA Senior Championships title defense against Tanzania on Sunday, in Uganda, while the U17 girls' team will also be traveling for the same competition on Monday next week.
